Hemp Bouquet designer rugs are handwoven on traditional vertical looms, following age old Turkish kilim weaving techniques much like the rugs in our vintage collection. The Romanian hemp yarn in our rugs is grown on local farms from improved hemp fiber varieties using low environmental impact techniques, and the fiber is processed in a modern long-fiber textile mill without cottonization. Our rugs are made to be cherished and loved through generations, their beauty developing with their age. The hemp yarn used for the warp, the undyed lengthwise threads that constitute the internal structure of the rug, are custom manufactured for us since they are double the standard diameter used in the dyed weft yarns. Our aim in choosing this yarn for the warp is to create a sturdy rug, lying firmly on the floor, without any need for extra padding. We hope our rugs will bring you joy and add a positive spirit to your living or work environment.

Design work is an essential part of Seçil Özelmas’ life, and she has been creating carpets, rugs and home textiles since the 1990s. In 2008, Seçil began to design and manufacture her own collections, as well as providing freelance design for other companies. Seçil’s design style is simple and straight forward, reflecting the natural materials she uses, while influenced by the intense abstractions and improvisations of traditional Anatolian kilims. Her favored motifs carry powerful meanings, some from myths and legends, others from the personal experiences of the weaver. “Using natural materials in my rugs makes me really happy. Hemp is a new material for me. The whole process from seed to harvest, from plant to fiber, and from fiber to weaving is an adventure. I find it very exciting to use hemp in rug and home textile design. Area rugs add spirit to a space, and link the furniture to the room." Seçil’s designs will bring a rare and unique material to your living environment.

Hemp fiber textiles are naturally anti-microbial, hypo-allergenic, and non-irritant. Pure hemp rugs are well-suited for households with wool-sensitive family members. Hemp fibers “breath” and do not hold odors like other fibers, so hemp fabrics remain fresh after prolonged use. Hemp fibers make durable and long-lasting rugs. Ultraviolet light and mildew resistance make hemp rugs appropriate for outdoor uses. Hemp rugs offer a more sustainable alternative to many of the products we use today, such as cotton and synthetic fibers that rely heavily on petrochemical inputs. Hemp fiber rugs are biodegradable and recyclable. Hemp is well-suited for a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle.
